Here is an update on what I’ve been doing in Council and in the community since my previous blog.

Mayor-making
It was a privilege to see our very own Cllr Kay Wesley become Congleton’s Mayor. I was able to 2nd her in nominations and I read out a speech and I am looking forward to seeing her out in the community fulfilling her duties. At the event I was able to meet lots of different people and talk to her nominated charities. Each charity she has chosen do phenomenal work and I really respect her decisions. It was lovely to see the town council come together with members of the public at this formal event. I know she will make a fabulous mayor.
It was a diverse and different take on the mayor making parade. It was nice to see such a fantastic group of people enjoying music and coming together to celebrate.
Planning and hosting a big picnic
For quite a few months, I’ve been working with a team of people who work for the community of Bromley farm to plan a large party at the Bromley Farm Hub.
We had a big community picnic. It was fantastic free event, full of food, music and
fun! it was a great event a lot of the residents of Bromley farm turned up, we had a visit from the Congleton Bears, The PCSOs, The Fire Service, Congleton Rickshaw came and gave some rides to residents.

There was some absolutely fabulous food, live music, people came and I showed them round the friendship garden and talked about the work that we have been doing there and we planted with a large group of children and adults from Bromley farm. It was such a good event and people were out in the square coming together as a community. The event was free for everybody to attend and I worked hard to make sure that everything was prepared and organised for the day.

We took lists of volunteers for our various groups and advertised the community work that we do there. Many thanks to Bell Group and Plus Dane for their generous sponsorship.
Congleton In Bloom
I have been working hard for Congleton InBloom preparing three ‘In Your Neighbourhood’ gardens.
We took part in the RHS big seeds sow. We have been planting the seeds that we have sowed as part of this project into the friendship garden and sharing them with Bromley Farm residents.

I am looking forward to meeting the judges and showing them round the work that we have done.
Nursery World
I have been helping a national paper called Nursery World with an article. They asked me to help them with their problems page. I agreed to help and have been answering questions and supporting other nurseries who need some professional advice.
Local anti-social behaviour
I have been working with some of my fellow councillors and professionals from Cheshire East and Plus Dane Housing to look into neighbourhood situations in our local area, including caravans parked on the street.
It’s been quite useful to be able to support the council by providing them with insights that might be beneficial to some of the issues that we are having on Bromley farm. Also working with Plus Dane to help remove one of the caravans which has been a success and is no longer a problem there.
It has been nice to work as part of a team trying to resolve the neighbourhood issues on Bromley Farm.
Congleton Food Festival
I helped as a volunteer at the Congleton Food Festival. I was working in the town hall helping to show visitors around and coordinating it showing them to where they needed to be for the day.
I was giving out leaflets and showing people where to go if they were lost or needed any information about the days events. I showed lots of people who have not been to Congleton, some of the things that are on in Congleton and gave them the town guide.
I invited lots of people into the Town Hall and encouraged them to come and have a look round at the children’s activities that were happening there. It was great to be part of the event which was really successful.
There were lots of children who had a great deal of fun in the town hall making pizzas and playing games. Once I had finished as a volunteer then went round with my family and had a great day there.
Bailey Crescent
I have been working with some of the residents from Bailey Crescent. I have worked alongside Kay to support residents who are struggling with parking issues and have brought the residents together into a group. This group is being supported by Kay Wesley as well as myself and we are working as part of team to try to solve the issues there.
I have invited some members to the Buglawton Community meeting.
Support within Council
I have been working hard during the election period to make sure that as Councillors we are respecting each other and looking after each other’s mental health. I have pushed the a note we put round council to remind people of the code of conduct and respect policy that we have for each other I felt this was important to run a clean and happy campaign, where Councillors acted as professionals running against each other.
War Graves celebration
I have organised a celebration to thank one of the gentlemen who has been looking after our war graves in Buglawton. I am looking forward to the event which will be held at Saint Peters Church and our man will be visiting. It’s been nice to make sure that the war graves are being looked after properly now and that the correct support is being given.
Community Safety working Group
I have been working with the community safety working group, looking into local problems, and coming up with ways to resolve them. I have brought a lot of concerns that have been brought to me by residents to this group and tried to court with solutions on how to resolve these working with the team of people at the
meeting.
We have been looking at issues with shoplifting in town and antisocial behaviours.
Christmas light switch on planning
I have been on the group to plan the Christmas light switch on event and looking at different ways that we can make the event a big success and safe for everybody to attend. I have been pushing for an inclusion for people with special needs and to make the event accessible to all.
I am looking forward to this event as we have lots of nice things planned. It’s been great to look at how the event in Congleton is run and I have learnt an awful lot from being part of this group.
Bins on Derby and Union St.
I have been working hard to make sure that the bins are being emptied on Derby and union Street. Even to taking the bins out myself to make sure that residents got their bins emptied.
Garden on Union St.
We noticed that one of the residents on Union Street had created a little garden area on some wasteland and I worked hard with the children from Nursery to do some crafts about bees and we made her some items to decorate the garden. It’s a lovely community garden now.
Stay and Play
I have been running to stay and play group on Bromley farm providing entertainment for children age 0 to 4. It’s been great to welcome the young photographer of the year from the Quinta primary school who came and took
some photographs to promote the Hub. The young photographer is primary school
age and he came with the Rotary club, and we worked together to get some
fabulous photographs.
These photographs were then used to create a news article with an established journalist. It was a great opportunity for everybody involved and it’s been great fun.
Neurodiversity Volunteers
I went to visit a stall in town, which was presenting some Volunteer work supporting neurodiverse people in Congleton. it was nice to chat to all the groups and learn about what they do and also talk to them about how I could help them as a councillor and as a volunteer myself. I also took some of the information and shared it with people that I know who might benefit from their services. It was a great opportunity as we have some really great services in our town .

Canvassing
It’s been great to get out and about and support Kay with her campaign to stand for MP. It was nice to talk to people about the work that we are doing and what they would like to see in the local area. I had some really great conversations with people it’s been really nice to see how supportive people are in the local area for a WEP
candidate.
