Statement from The Equality Party on Donald Trump’s Inauguration as the 47th President of the United States

The inauguration of Donald Trump marks a significant moment, not only for the US but for the world . At The Equality Party, we are committed to standing up for fairness, truth, and democracy, and we believe these values face renewed challenges under this administration.

Trump’s rhetoric and policies have consistently sought to divide rather than unite. His inaugural address, while making sweeping promises, delivered messages that threaten to erode hard-won freedoms and equality. Proclaiming simplistic solutions to complex issues, such as “restoring common sense,” may appeal to some, but they often mask regressive policies that harm the majority of people .

We are particularly troubled by the emphasis on rigid gender definitions, which marginalise LGBTQI+ communities and roll back years of progress in recognising and celebrating diversity. Equality and human rights must never be up for debate, let alone undermined by government decree.

Similarly, the patriarchal leadership style and framing of public health, education, and immigration issues in adversarial terms risks deepening divides. Instead of blaming, we need policies that address systemic challenges with compassion and evidence-based solutions.

As a global community, we must also be vigilant against the rise of far-right movements emboldened by Trump’s return. Misogyny, hate and division have no place in our society, and we must work tirelessly to combat their spread wherever it occurs.

It is critical to remember the lessons from history that underscore the dangers of ignoring evidence, dismissing victims, and allowing powerful voices to distort the truth. We call on the UK Government to implement measures that prioritise equality, safeguarding, transparency, and accountability in all institutions.

The Equality Party will continue to champion policies rooted in fairness and justice. We stand for:

  • Protecting the rights of all people, regardless of gender non-conformity race, ability or  background.
  • Defending democracy by demanding accountability from those in power.
  • Promoting unity and equality, rejecting any attempts to divide communities for political gain.

This is a moment to redouble our commitment to these principles. We invite those who share our vision to join us in advocating for a world where equality is the cornerstone of progress. Together, we can build a society where everyone has a voice and a fair chance to thrive.
