Nothing About Us, Without Us.
We were promised that changes would not be made to PIP until after the Timms report was published. We were promised disabled communities would coproduce the Timms report to ensure that lived experience guides any changes to process.
Instead we have been side lined. Disabled groups have not been guaranteed veto powers in the review nor has the extent of their input been confirmed. Stephen Timms remains vague in his stance of working with disabled people.
Now that PIP has been removed from the Universal Credit Bill, Labour believes they can get away with stealing from the pockets of disabled people. From April 2026, new claimants of the health element will receive almost half as much as current claimants for the same disability. This is part of a continued effort to attack disabled people and push them to the periphery. We will not go quietly into the corner like you wish. We will fight the injustices you continue to perpetrate against us.
The Equality Party demands the Timms report committee does not just ‘consult’ disabled groups; it should be comprised of at least 50% disabled people. Consultation is never a substitute for lived experience.
