Equality Party Statement on the UK Government’s proposed cuts to disability benefits
The Equality Party urges the UK Government to rethink its proposed cuts to Disability Benefits and to address the issues which have led to a large increase in claimants instead of pushing disabled people into a “sink or swim” situation.
The tone of the Government’s recent announcements frames ill health as a choice, implying that disabled people’s existence is a costly problem for society. This rhetoric is stigmatising and unjust.
Equality Party opens for members
The new Equality Party has opened for membership, having been approved and registered by the Electoral Commission to stand candidates in elections in England, Scotland and Wales.
The party has seen a rush of new members from all over the country, mostly ex-members of the Women’s Equality Party, which closed its doors at the end of December.
