Equality Party Stands for Fairness in Scotland’s Holyrood Elections

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 9th April 2026

The Equality Party has today confirmed it will stand on the regional list ballot in the forthcoming Scottish Parliament Holyrood elections, unveiling a diverse slate of candidates committed to fairness, representation, and opportunity for all.

Representing the Equality Party in Edinburgh and Lothians East Region are David Renton, Laura Mackintosh, and Caitlyn Dykes-Johnson, three candidates bringing experience in community leadership, advocacy, and equality campaigning.

David Renton, a Community Councillor in Edinburgh, has a strong track record of working at a local level to support residents, champion inclusive decision making, and advocate for disability rights and accessibility within his community.

He said, “I have seen first hand how much stronger our communities are when people feel heard and represented. I am standing to make sure local voices are not just listened to but acted on at a national level.”

Laura Mackintosh brings extensive experience in grassroots organising and community engagement, focusing on amplifying underrepresented voices and tackling inequalities in housing, education, and access to services.

She said, “Too many people feel locked out of decisions that affect their daily lives. I am standing to challenge that so everyone has a fair chance, a fair say, and a fair future.”

Caitlyn Dykes-Johnson, a dedicated advocate for equality and inclusion, has campaigned on issues affecting marginalised communities, particularly gender equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, and social mobility.

They said, “Representation matters. Scotland should be a place where everyone can thrive, regardless of who they are or where they come from. I am standing to help build a Parliament that truly reflects and serves its people.”

Party Leader and Town Councillor Kay Wesley said –

“People are tired of politics that talks a good game but does not change much. We are putting forward candidates who understand their communities and are ready to get stuck in. This is about making Scotland fairer in ways people can actually feel in their everyday lives.”

The Equality Party is offering voters a clear alternative rooted in integrity, inclusion, and evidence based policy. Key priorities will include reducing inequality, improving access to public services, strengthening protections against discrimination, and supporting inclusive economic growth across Scotland.

Further details on constituencies, policy priorities, and campaign events will be announced in the coming weeks.
