The Bromley Farm Community Picnic
it was really nice to see the community coming together for our Bromley community picnic. It took us many months to plan this event and it was a really big success.
We had live music, lots of entertainment, some good food and people really did turn out for what was a lovely day. The police came and let us try on their outfits.
We had free ice creams for the children and this was a great opportunity to engage with the community and ask them what they want to see so that we can target our groups effectively and raise funding in the future.
Congleton InBloom
It’s been a busy few months for Congleton in Bloom and being on the working group, I have helped to plan this event but I was also taking part.
I have a back-to-back garden in the polytunnel where we displayed artwork in a wheelbarrow and some of our plants that we have been grown over the term. When the judges came to visit the polytunnel, it was a great opportunity to share the work that we have been doing a network with some of the other local groups and see their contribution to Congleton in Bloom.
It was nice to attend the celebration meal and talk to other members of Congleton in Bloom and the judges.
After the judges had had their lunch, they came to visit the back-to-back gardens. I presented our garden where there was lots of artwork, curriculum based displays for the judges to see. They have been really impressed with the work that has gone into all of the gardens and we were really proud of what we have achieved.
In addition I have been working with groups of volunteers to prepare the Friendship Garden for the It’s Your Neighbourhood judging. It has provided a great deal of food for the community this year, and offered a space where people can work with nature and make friends, as its name suggests.
Derby St Clean up
I was shocked to see the state of Derby St in Congleton with weeds and dirt. So I decided to help my community and do a clean up.
I found drains under the mud and weeds. I unblocked them and now the road is clear and hopefully when the weather changes will be able to drain properly.
Congleton Pride
I had such a wonderful time and met so many fantastic people attending the pride events at the Congleton Town hall. We had a stall where I worked with lots of new people and had some really positive conversations. It was great to look around the Pride event and see what an amazing diverse town that we live in.
Dale Crescent Gully
I have been working hard with Plus Dane Housing to improve the gullies of Bromley farm. There have been some significant events recently which have really heightened residence concerns about the state and accessibility of these gullies.
I have been working with residents and visited some to have conversations about fly tipping, accessibility, and other issues such as community safety.
I have taken these concerns and referred them to The Bromley Farm Forum which operates from the Hub and taking the directly to Plus Dane Housing who are working to rectify these problems.
Government changes to early years
I have been asked to give my feedback and suggestions to the new government changes to Early Years. I have contributed by describing the lack of support for providers with funding, the lack of support for funding of holiday care for working Parents, making suggestions for SEND to make paperwork less lengthy, repetitive, and complicated, discussing the pros and cons of nonworking families getting extra funding and looking into how the suggested changes might work well and what barriers there are.
I also made suggestions about the Ofsted process and how this could be improved to make it less stressful for providers.
Meeting Attendance
During July and August I have attended 100% of my council and working group meetings.
